Changes to repeat prescription ordering Nov 24

 

Why: To help reduce cost of unused medicines.

 

Ø  Your local pharmacy has been informed.

Ø  Patients identified as housebound will have separate arrangements in place.

 

How can I now order my repeat prescription?

Ø  NHS App

Ø  Email the practice at prescriptions.w93058@wales.nhs.uk

Ø  Through the practice website www.pontypoolmedicalcentre.co.uk

Ø  Hand in your repeat slip at the surgery

Ø  There will be no changes to anyone using Weekly Boxes

Prescriptions will be ready to collect after 2pm

Ø  48 hours after receipt of request (surgery)

Ø  Liaise with your Pharmacy to determine how long they need to dispense your medication

 

Emergency Requests

These will be reviewed on an individual basis, and will need to be collected from the practice.

Repeat Prescriptions

We can only accept telephone medication requests in exceptional circumstances. Rescue packs of antibiotics are only given to patients who have previously been recognised as needing these.

Patients on long-term medication can order repeat prescriptions in a number of ways:multicolour_pills

  • In person -  Prescription requests should be made through your usual Pharmacy or by posting in the red pillar box in the foyer of Pontypool Medical Centre or the black post box outside the pedestrian gate entrance at New Inn Medical Centre. 

  • By post - send it to us with a stamped addressed envelope if you’d like us to post it back to you.
  • By fax  - to 01495 767895 (Mount patients) or 01495 757149 (New Inn patients).
  • NHS Wales App -  We are now live on the NHS Wales App which will replace My Health Online. To ensure continuity of services download the App today or use the desktop web version available.

Local pharmacies also offer a collection service and will collect prescriptions from the surgery. However, you must sign a card, held by the pharmacist, to authorise the collection. 72 hours is required for this service.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse or pharmacist at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Repeat medication at Goytre

We are a dispensing practice and can dispense to all patients who live more than one mile from a pharmacy.

We can dispense private, hospital and dental prescriptions.

We require 5 working days' notice before you can collect your dispensed medication to avoid disappointment and maintain patient safety.  Please bear this time scale in mind when ordering your medication.

Repeat prescription requests received after 1pm will not be processed until the next working day. Please allow 5 working days for prescriptions to be processed. Please also remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account when ordering medications.
